Class 5 - School Allotment Day - Monday 8th April!
On the first day back after the Easter holiday (Monday 8th April), Class 5 will be launching their new Cornerstones topic, ‘Sow, Grow and Farm,’ by having a School Allotment Day.
Dear parents/carers,
On the first day back after the Easter holiday (Monday 8th April), Class 5 will be launching their new Cornerstones topic, ‘Sow, Grow and Farm,’ by having a School Allotment Day. During this day, children will take part in a range of gardening activities on the school site. These will include:
- Weeding and watering
- Gathering and redistributing compost
- Planting seeds
- Tidying planters
There is no fee for this experience however it would be advisable for children to arrive at school wearing Forest School-type clothing including:
- Wellies/walking boots/waterproof shoes
- Old tops and trousers
- A waterproof coat (if it rains, we will still go outside to complete some of these activities)
- Gloves
It would also help if your child could bring their own trowel. We do have some in school so it is not essential to bring one although if a few children could bring one in then this will mean more children can be involved at the same time.
In addition, I would also like to request that children collect the following items in a sealed Tupperware box (or other suitable container) to bring in on the same day:
- Used tea bags (ideally without milk in them)
- Egg shells (washed)
- Old coffee grounds (like you get in a cafetiere)
We will be using these waste materials to improve the quality of our soil in the school garden.
Have a wonderful Easter holiday.
Many thanks,
Mr Duffield
Class 5 Teacher
