Forest School

At St Luke’s, we are very lucky to have a forest school on site. Children in EYFS and Class 1 have weekly sessions of outdoor education which encourages appreciation and responsibility for nature and conservation of our world.

Children follow their usual curriculum, but in an outdoor context, using learning and teaching strategies which raise self-esteem, develop confidence, independence and language and communication skills. The Forest School planning links themes looked at in the classroom, to the woodland.

At St Luke’s, we are very lucky to have access to Chetwynd Deer Park near Newport. Each year, Key Stage Two attend a dedicated outdoor learning day at the site.

Activities include: bush craft, cooking, planting, nature walks, playing in the mud kitchen and so much more!

Children should come to school dressed ready for Forest School in waterproofs, hard-toed boots or wellies and scarves, gloves, hats or sun-cream and sun-hat (depending on the time of year).
